Hobo Design is the functional work of woodworker, designer and artist Jim Haas. Based out of Southeast Portland, Oregon, the studio specializes in hand-crafted pieces incorporating unique timber and traditional joinery, using hand planes and scrapers to leave a glowing finished surface with subtle ingrained tool marks. The wood used is predominantly sourced within Oregon and Washington through small local sawyers - who mill trees that would end up as firewood or wood waste. These small time sawyers usually get the trees by offsetting the price to people who want or need a tree to come down.
Commissions and custom works are always welcomed - most anything can be realized from tables to mantles to cabinets to tea houses. With a mindful discipline of creating contemporary wood furniture from reclaimed and sustainable wood, Hobo Design hopes to create works that will inspire and cultivate your live/work space.
